November is designation awareness month | PAR Just Listed?

Realtors? who earn a professional designation or certification have an average gross income that?s $27,000 higher than Realtors? who have none, according to the 2012 National Association of Realtors? Member Profile report.

During the month of November, the National Association of Realtors? (NAR) encourages its members to start or complete an officially endorsed designation or certification through NAR or one of its institutes.

?Realtors? have access to advanced education designation and certification programs, tailored to virtually every real estate specialty. Beyond building skills, knowledge and productivity, these prestigious programs enhance the professional image of Realtors? and take our members to the next level,? said PAR?s incoming president, Bette McTamney, CRB, CRS, GRI, SRES.

According to NAR?s 2012 member profile report, 33 percent of Realtors? have obtained at least one professional designation. The most popular is Graduate Realtor? Institute (GRI), held by 19 percent of respondents; Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR?), 15 percent; and Certified Residential Specialist? (CRS?), 10 percent. Smaller shares hold one of 14 designations.

Realtors? who earn the GRI designation reported that they were better able to serve and protect their clients because of their understanding of new technology. laws, and procedures. Those with the GRI designation earned a median of $50,000 while those without the designation earned a median income of $28,900, a difference of $21,100.

?I run the Witt-Lippincott team of buyers? agents. All the agents on our team must obtain the ABR??designation to show that their main focus is on the buyers,? said Philadelphia Realtor? Loretta Witt. ?It is a way to set us apart from other agents. It indicates that we seek to be excellent in what we do, and indicates that we give superior service to our buyer-clients.?

The ABR? designation is designed for real estate buyer agents who focus on working directly with buyer-clients. Realtors? who earn the designation gain a unique understanding of home buyer?s needs and how to best serve them.

?Having the ABR designation after our names shows that we respect that law for the clarity it brings to real estate transactions, that we adjust our professional work to the law?s requirements, and that we have a clear understanding of agency in real estate as it works in Pennsylvania,? Witt added.

The CRS? designation is the highest designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. It recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. This designation provides Realtors? with in-depth knowledge of business planning, negotiating and closing transactions, working in buyers? and sellers? best interests, and building a referral business.

?Having designations shows consumers that you are willing to go that extra mile to keep up-to-date with education, trends and issues that affect today?s real estate market,? said Ashland Realtor? Wendy Knorr, president of the Pennsylvania CRS Chapter. ?CRS offers exceptional educational offerings that can boost your career, and always keep you up on the latest business practices.?

Mars Realtor? Darla Jobkar holds the GRI, ABR, and CRS designations. ?I have always believed that knowledge is power and that education and continued focus in your profession is of the utmost importance,? Jobkar said. ?I believe that designations help you to earn respect in your chosen career. Having a designation proves that you are not just about sales and making money, but really care about the consumer.?

NAR strongly encourages its members to increase their professional image, marketability, productivity and income through the pursuance of a designation or certification program.
